Healthy Gutters, Healthy Home.

When you move into your new property, it is a well-deserved time to settle in and enjoy your new home. One of the ways that we support our clients is by taking the guesswork out of maintaining their property going forward.

Whether you want to put on a pair of gloves and do the work yourself or you would like to hire someone, our clients appreciate our streamlined and clear protocols for keeping their properties in excellent shape.

Why do we clean & inspect gutters?

The two primary concerns that can arise with gutters relate to weight and water as a result of build-up or damage.

If you have debris in your gutters, water will inevitably find alternative avenues to leave. This can lead to siding, soffit, or landscaping issues.

When substantial build-up occurs, the added weight can cause a gutter to crack or separate from the house, allowing water to run down the sides of the property. This can potentially create bigger repair issues in the future such as subterranean leaks, cracked walls, and moisture damage to your siding and roof, and in extreme cases, shifting in sidewalks and other exterior surfaces.

The good news is that gutters are one of the easiest parts of your home to keep in good shape through basic regularly scheduled maintenance.

When do we schedule to have gutters cleaned?

At West Coast General Building Contractors, we have a few indicators that let us know it is time to tend to gutters and downspouts.

  1. If you have deciduous foliage within the immediate area. After each leaf-shed, you should inspect the gutters and decide if it is something to be addressed.

  2. Before the San Diego rainy season. As we head into our rainy season this week, it is a great time to take a look and make sure the rain is being routed through the gutters as designed. * If it is raining and you see an issue please try to take a video! This helps us to understand and resolve any issues.

  3. If you notice that the water is not draining from areas other than the downspouts (through connections or over the edges).

  4. If you hire a company they will come and assess your property and set up a regular maintenance schedule that should stay ahead of preventable damage due to build-up.

How do you clean your gutters?

You will need gloves, a trash bag, a ladder, and a Sunday afternoon!

If your property is multi-storied or there are any potential safety-compromising factors such as slopes or uneven terrain, then it is always advisable to hire a professional.

Many of our clients opt for a pre-arranged maintenance plan with one of our personally selected sub-contractors or with their own. No matter how you choose to approach maintaining your property, rest assured that our team is only a call away for questions, advice, or help to schedule your maintenance needs.
