In January we lost a beloved friend and exceptional landscape architect, Greg Hebert who had been courageously battling cancer for over a year.

Greg was a partner and a pillar for West Coast GBC since our early days and for over two decades, we consider ourselves lucky to have worked with him on some of our most distinguished and memorable projects.

Greg embodied so much of what makes us love what we do; the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with great people who possess so much creativity, passion, and love for their craft.

No matter the size of the budget or scope of a project, Greg always gave the same level of attention, detail, and respect to clients and everyone he worked with. He set the tone with this approach and was genuinely motivated by craft, something that he and Parker shared and helped lay the foundation for their decades-long friendship.

Rancho Santa Fe Luxury Garden

In 2015 Greg won San Diego Home & Gardens award for Garden of the Year for his stunning landscapes at our Rancho Santa Fe project. The beauty and detail of those gardens are a true testament to Greg’s talent and thoughtful approach. However, it was the process behind-the-scenes that arguably made working with Greg a uniquely enjoyable experience.

This was an exceptionally high-tempo project and no matter the pressure or challenge, there was Greg, calm and collected stewarding everyone with his gentle and supportive nature. He took small concepts and elements and constructed exceptional environments out of them that inspired the people he worked with and ultimately helped to create a forever home for our clients.

As individuals and as a company, we strive to surround ourselves with people that reflect who we are, what we admire and respect and value. Greg could make anyone look good, want to do good, and most importantly, feel good.

Greg will continue to live on through the gardens and trees that grow thanks to the gift he left so many people with; his creative talent for crafting beautiful and robust natural landscapes.

We send our love and deepest condolences to his wife and family whose strength during this time had been nothing short of admirable.

Gail Zerbe and Mark Fuerte of Greg Hebert’s Landscape Architect firm will continue his legacy under his namesake. We look forward to seeing the work they will produce in the next chapter for the firm.
